Stabilizing Vitamin C in Water

One leading GSC customer asked us to develop a natural-based product that stabilized up to 10% vitamin C or Ascorbic acid in a serum form without any change in its color and feel. For instance, there is approximately 5% vitamin C in orange juice stabilized naturally. Ascorbic acid is normally very unstable in the presence of water and air. It tends to change from colorless to coffee brown due to oxidation.

Gogi worked collaboratively with the customer to assess the precise requirements for the product. Even though no off-the-shelf answer was available, GSC team of experienced formulators and research scientists persevered and came up with a successful solution that met the customer’s demand.

GSC delivered a proprietary natural-based system which retained more than 9% vitamin C or Ascorbic acid in a one-year-old sample at room temperature. This, as it turned out, is one of the best selling products for our customer.
